Army welcomes new commanding general

Brigadier General Scott Wilkinson takes command of 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne)

Wilkinson, a native of Georgia, is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and has served in a variety of leadership positions throughout his career.

Wilkinson assumed command of the 160th SOAR (A) on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, during a ceremony at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. The 160th SOAR (A) is a special operations aviation regiment that provides aviation support to the United States Army Special Operations Command. The regiment is headquartered at Fort Campbell and has units stationed around the world.

In his new role, Wilkinson will be responsible for leading the 160th SOAR (A) in carrying out its mission of providing aviation support to USASOC. He will also be responsible for the training and readiness of the regiment's soldiers.

Wilkinson is a highly decorated officer who has served in combat in Afghanistan and Iraq. He is a Master Army Aviator and has logged over 2,000 flight hours. He is also a graduate of the Army's Command and General Staff College and the School of Advanced Military Studies.

The Army said in a statement that Wilkinson is "a proven leader who is well-qualified to command the 160th SOAR (A)." The statement added that Wilkinson "brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the regiment and will be a valuable asset to USASOC."
